Austria’s ‘most sustainable running event’ pencilled in for June

The race is backed by prominent environmental organisations, Global 2000 and Austrian Ecolabel

A running event that aims to champion fair working conditions and organic products in the sportswear industry will take place for the fifth time in Vienna.

The Global 2000 Fairness Run, labelled Austria’s most sustainable running event, will occur on 28 June 2018.

Only organic, regional and fairtrade products will be offered to runners taking part, who will also be expected to take “climate-friendly travel” to the starting point and drink from reusable cups throughout the race.

The race’s headline sponsor, Global 2000, is a Friends of the Earth partner committed to “ecological fairness” and the development of environmental policy in Austria.

Austrian Ecolabel, an organisation focusing on ecological standards and the reduction of environmental pollution, is also a race partner.

“Running is a simple and effective way to get moving while consciously enjoying the beauty of nature in a gentle way,” said Fairness Run organiser Jürgen Smrz.

“Urban green spaces also play an important role in the protection and preservation of natural biodiversity.”
