New Milwaukee Bucks Arena teases sustainability plan ahead of opening

Wisconsin Entertainment and Sports Center bans straws and brings in compostable packaging for Populous-designed NBA venue

A wide-ranging sustainability plan developed by the Wisconsin Entertainment and Sports Center (WESC) – the new home of the Milwaukee Bucks NBA team – will be revealed ahead of its official opening in autumn 2018.

But to give fans a taste for what’s in store, the general manager of the under-construction venue, Raj Saha, revealed that no plastic straws would be provided for any event and food packaging will be compostable.

“We are committed to protecting our environment by enacting eco-friendly initiative at our world-class arena,” said Saha.

“We will unveil our full sustainability plan as we get closer to opening the new venue.”

Populous, the sports architect, has designed the arena alongside Eppstein Uhen Architects and HNTB.

Separately, the Bucks have partnered with the American Transmission Company on a tree planting project around Milwaukee. Working together, the pair will plant 343 trees at schools across the state of Wisconsin.
